The AI Brainstorming Session
A great marketing campaign starts with a great idea. But brainstorming can be a slow, difficult process. An AI can act as a tireless brainstorming partner, generating a wide range of creative concepts and angles that you can then refine.
The Strategy: Using Creative Constraints
The key to a good brainstorming prompt is to provide a clear goal but also add creative constraints. Constraints force the AI to think outside the box and avoid generic ideas.
Example Scenario: You need to launch a campaign for a new brand of organic, fair-trade coffee.
Example Prompt:
"Act as a world-class advertising creative director. We are launching a new brand of organic, fair-trade coffee. Our target audience is millennials who value sustainability and quality.
Your task is to brainstorm 5 distinct campaign concepts.
CRITICAL CONSTRAINTS:
- Constraint 1: One campaign idea must be based on the tagline 'Your Morning, Upgraded.'
- Constraint 2: One campaign idea must be a partnership with a popular nature or hiking influencer.
- Constraint 3: One campaign idea must NOT show a coffee cup at all.
For each of the 5 ideas, provide a campaign title and a one-sentence summary of the concept."
Why This Works
The constraints prevent the AI from giving you five generic "person drinking coffee" ideas.
- Constraint 1 forces it to think about the benefit (an upgraded morning ritual).
- Constraint 2 forces it to think about distribution channels and audience alignment.
- Constraint 3 is the most powerful. It forces the AI to think metaphorically about what coffee represents (e.g., energy, focus, a moment of peace) instead of just showing the product.
The AI might generate ideas like:
- (From Constraint 3) Title: The 5 AM Club. Summary: A campaign featuring a series of short, cinematic portraits of successful people (an artist, a coder, an athlete) in their element, just before dawn, crediting their focus to their morning ritual, which subtly includes our coffee.
- (From Constraint 2) Title: The Summit Brew. Summary: Partner with influencer @TrailAdventures to create content of them brewing our coffee on a beautiful mountain summit at sunrise, connecting our brand with nature and achievement.
This approach gives you a rich, diverse set of strategic starting points for your next great campaign.
