An AI Agent is a system that you can give a high-level goal, and it will autonomously work to achieve it. It can create its own multi-step plan, use "tools" to take action, and even adapt its plan based on what it discovers.

The Surprise Party Analogy

Let's imagine you want to plan a surprise party for a friend.

• Using a Chatbot: You might ask, "What are some good themes for a surprise party for someone who likes hiking?" The chatbot gives you a list of ideas. You then have to do all the work of planning.

• Using an AI Agent: You would give it a goal: "Plan a surprise party for my friend Alex's birthday next month."

The agent would then start working on its own, following a "thought-action-observation" loop:

2. Action: Uses a "read contacts" tool to find Alex's close friends.
3. Thought: "Now I need a venue that can hold 20 people."
4. Action: Uses a "search the web" tool to look for local event spaces.

6. Thought: "Okay, I've found a good venue. Now I will draft an invitation."
7. Action: Uses a "write email" tool to create a draft and saves it for you to approve.

An AI Agent doesn't just answer questions; it breaks down a complex goal into smaller tasks and executes them until the goal is complete. It's your personal digital assistant that can take initiative.
